Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven (But Nobody Wants to Die)
These are the starting words from the new David Crowder CD:
"Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die".
Last week, we shared that we need to make every day count. We shared about how Kyle Lake really didn't wake up thinking that it would be his final day to minister. But he lived as if it was. And it was Kyle, David Crowder's best friend, who collaborated with David for much of the new worship CD which starts with that line.
An excerpt from Kyle's last sermon was read at his funeral last week... Kyle spoke:
Live. And Live Well. BREATHE. Breathe in and Breathe deeply. Be PRESENT. Do not be past. Do not be future. Be now. On a crystal clear, breezy 70 degree day, roll down the windows and FEEL the wind against your skin. Feel the warmth of the sun.
If you run, then allow those first few breaths on a cool Autumn day to FREEZE your lungs and do not just be alarmed, be ALIVE. Get knee-deep in a novel and LOSE track of time.
If you bike, pedal HARD… and if you crash then crash well.Feel the SATISFACTION of a job well done—a paper well-written, a project thoroughly completed, a play well-performed. If you must wipe the snot from your 3-year old’s nose, don’t be disgusted if the Kleenex didn’t catch it all… because soon he’ll be wiping his own.
If you’ve recently experienced loss, then GRIEVE. And Grieve well. At the table with friends and family, LAUGH. If you’re eating and laughing at the same time, then might as well laugh until you puke. And if you eat, then SMELL. The aromas are not impediments to your day. Steak on the grill, coffee beans freshly ground, cookies in the oven.
And TASTE. Taste every ounce of flavor. Taste every ounce of friendship. Taste every ounce of Life. Because-it-is-most-definitely-a-Gift."
While Kyle didn't wake up that morning probably even thinking this would be his last day on earth, it sure sounds like he lived like it might be.
Let's take some of Kyle's last words, along with those of Jesus himself, to make this a day that matters... a day that counts for His Kingdom.
I came that they (you) may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). (John 10:10 AMP)
Go out and live an 'overflowing' life today! Don't wait for tomorrow!
Todd

Loretta Lynn had this title long before this guy did. Many years ago when I was a child.

Recently I watched the movie Dead Poets Society. When I read Kyle's last sermon...it made me think of the point of the moive of Dead Poets Society...to live and suck the marrow out of life. I appreciate that. In Jesus Christ I have found my life. If I merely take just a sip...I should never question why I at times feel unsatisfied. But if I dive fully into the presence and Word of God...my cup truly will runneth over and at that point I think I will begin to grasp what it means to live an abundant life.

I love that quote. I wonder how long till the rest of the message gets posted so we can read it in context. I hope someone laminates it and saves it for his kids as they grow and can be reminded of some of dad's last words for them.
