Don't Mess With This Youth Pastor
This from Associated Press:
LIBERTY, Missouri (AP) -- A youth minister was charged with assault for allegedly knocking down a 16-year-old boy and kicking him in the groin after taking a head shot from the teen in a dodgeball game.
David M. Boudreaux, 27, was charged Wednesday with one count of third-degree assault. According to court documents, the incident happened in February at Crescent Lake Christian Academy.
Authorities said the teen missed Boudreaux with one throw but then knocked the youth minister's glasses off with the next.
The boy apologized, authorities said, but Boudreaux pushed him backward, and when the teen got up again Boudreaux kicked him in the groin and left.
The teen suffered whiplash and post-concussion syndrome and had blood in his urine after being kicked, according to court records.
Boudreaux later apologized, prosecutors said.
Jeanne D. Hewitt, administrator of Crescent Lake Christian Academy, said Boudreaux had been placed on administrative leave.

The kids in our youth group found out about this, so I said, "Yeah... Now you know what we are capable of, do you REALLY wan to mess with us pastors?"
Sorry... trying to make light. I think maybe this guy needs a new line of work.

There's no excusing this behaviour, and maybe I'm off track, but isn't dodge-ball a little agressive for a youth ministry activity?
Some people, especially testosterone fueled young men, can get pretty competitive.

This kind of makes me laugh. I know it should not but it kind of does. I play dodge ball with our teens all the time. I have been hit every where, never one time did I think I was going to get up and kick the teen in the groin. In fact when you play dodge ball the teens usually aim for the adults it is a fact. I wonder if there was more going on here.
Either way this youth pastor needs to find another job. It would be one thing if he tackled the kid and or something, (then maybe a warning) but to kick a teen is going too far, way too far.

I posted a similar article on my blog and most emails recommended "boot camp" for the youth pastor and wanted to sign up the kid for their league :)

We used to have some great dodgeball games at youth group at my former church. The gym where I minister now doens't have the walls to catch the balls behind you. But there were some pretty intense games. We even had a few really good baseball players come through that come really hum the ball. One guy actually went on to lead the SEC in saves while playing at Alabama.
But never did anyone get mad like that. And never would I have pushed a kid down and kicked him in the groin. Sounds like some major anger management issues.

DanielR - No, Dodgeball IS youth ministry! The rest is just JESUS.
Seriously though, this guy has something helse going on and working with kids should not be an option in his near future!

OK, now who is being kicked while he's down?

I'm just a tad shocked at the sanctimonious ring to some of these responses... some of you act like you've never lost your temper in ministry... not justifying what he did one bit... but there but by the grace of God go any of us...

bill,
HUGE difference between getting mad and hitting someone.
Get mad at my wife? Okay, maybe... Hit her? Not okay, Not maybe...
This guy might need counseling, might need a new job/career...

I think the poor teen is going to find it hard to trust youth pastors for a while. It is a terrible thing to be kicked in the groin, because of the physical trauma (the pain, the bleeding in the urine) and the inherent sensitivity of the area.
The Swiss footballer Stephane Grichting was recently kicked so hard in his groin that he had to be hospitalised. He also suffered emotional trauma as a result of being kicked in the groin. The kick was so hard that it caused his urinary duct to burst, causing him to bleed in his urine for many days, and he had terrible pains each time he urinated.
It seems like most people don't realise the trauma that a guy goes through when he is kicked in the groin.
